World leaders dominate Paris Major

The Paris Major, held at the iconic Roland Garros venue, concluded yesterday. This tournament, unanimously considered the best padel event in the world, attracted more than 60,000 spectators over the course of a week and crowned the world’s top-ranked players, Ari Sanchez / Paula Josémaria and Arturo Coello / Agustin Tapia, as the undisputed winners.

PAULA AND ARI WIN THE “TRIPLE” IN THE MAJORS
The Spanish pair, who consistently shine in the most important tournaments, clearly defeated the tournament’s surprise team, Delfi Brea and Andrea Ustero, winning 6-4 and 6-0. They successfully defended their 2023 title and completed a sweep of the Major-category tournaments this season.
With this victory, the world No. 1 duo will extend their lead in the world rankings over Gemma Triay, who couldn’t progress past the quarterfinals in Paris.

COELLO AND TAPIA DOMINATE IN PARIS
There are starting to be fewer adjectives to describe the dominance that Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia are showing in the current men’s world circuit. In the Paris Major, the world No. 1s were once again completely dominant, putting up astonishing numbers:

  • 5 matches and 5 wins;
  • 10 sets won and 0 sets lost;
  • 60 games won and 18 lost (losing 1 game for every 3.33 won);
  • 4 hours and 40 minutes on court.
    In the decisive match, Coello and Tapia defeated Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan in just 56 minutes, with a convincing 6-2 and 6-1, completely overwhelming the world No. 2 pair.

PORTUGUESE PLAYERS WITH A “SO-SO” PERFORMANCE
The Paris tournament again featured the participation of several Portuguese players in both the men's and women’s draws.
António Luque, the only representative in the men's main draw, passed the qualifying round without issues but fell in the second round of the main draw, losing to Iñigo Jofre and Juan Tello in a close match, 4-6, 6-7.
In the women’s draw, Portugal was represented by Ana Catarina Nogueira, Patrícia Ribeiro, and Sofia Araújo.
Ana Catarina, who returned to Paris fully recovered from the injury that forced her to withdraw from the P1 in Valladolid, played alongside Marta Caparros. However, they were eliminated in the round of 32 by the unstoppable Ari Sanchez and Paula Josémaria.
