When the A1 circuit calendar was first presented, there were doubts about holding a tournament in the middle of August. However, the choice of a summer resort for the second Master of the year proved to be a huge success. For 10 days, the Club Nuevo Alcantara in Marbella was packed, hosting what many considered the best tournament of the year on this circuit.
As for the competition, Tolito and Gonza continue to dominate the circuit in an overwhelming fashion. The "magicians" have played in all eight finals of 2024, already claiming six titles and threatening the record of 10 victories set by Arce and Dalbianco in 2023.
In yesterday's final, Tolito and Gonza only faced some difficulty in the first set against Tito Allemandi and Rama Pereyra, where they had to battle through a tiebreak to secure the win. From that point on, it was a walk in the park for the No. 1 pair, who won the second set 6-1.
Portuguese Players Shine in Marbella
After missing out on La Rioja due to the European Championship, Portuguese representation returned in Marbella with the usual appearances of Vasco Pascoal and Pedro Perry, joined by António Luque.
The standout performance came from António Luque, who, alongside José Luis Gonzalez, reached the semifinals of this Master, only to be stopped by Tolito and Gonza Alfonso with a score of 6-4, 7-6, in one of the best matches seen at Nueva Alcantara.
Pedro Perry, with his new partner, Argentine Facundo Lopez, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by the finalists of this Marbella Master, Tito Allemandi and Rama Pereyra, with a score of 6-3, 6-1, repeating the result achieved in Sanlucar de Barrameda.
Finally, Vasco Pascoal, with his partner Adria Mercadal, was unable to get past the first round, losing 7-6, 6-2 to Alfonso Sanchez and Dani Blanco.
